Steve Barrett was born in 1952. His interest in modern history was the spur to writing his first novel, Sea Lion, based on the premise that the planned German invasion of the United Kingdom went ahead in September 1940.

A resident of Sussex for most of his life, his knowledge of, and affection for this corner of England shows through in the book. Further books in development include a sequel to Sea Lion, a historical novel based on Alexander the Great and a modern crime story.
