Information on Sea Lion.

A scene from the novel Sea Lion by Steve Barrett is brought to life here. A Hurricane on patrol over the Channel stalks a crippled Me.110 fighter. The Me. 110 had a rearward facing machine gun, but either the rear gunner of this one is dead or wounded, or the gun has jammed or is out of ammunition.

The German aircraft - an example of the "Zerstoerer"  ("destroyer") concept - was fast and had formidable armament to the front, but the large twin-engined design meant that it lacked the agility of the Hurricane or Spitfire in a dogfight. The starboard engine of this one has been "feathered" in any case, so it looks as if the raider will be brought down by the Hurricane. However, as you will see if you read chapter 6 of the novel, nothing is certain in war...
